Most people assume that bad backs are a sign of an aging body’s inability to cope with the day to day stresses and traumas. One of the things I hear most in my practice when my patients begin to feel the lasting effects of chiropractic care is “I wish I had discovered chiropractic care sooner.” Yet they are surprised to see young patients in my waiting room.
The notion that chiropractic care is for adults has been widely accepted, but what about chiropractic care for kids? You may work at a desk all day and feel the strain it puts on your body, but what about the daily stresses our children face? Heavy backpacks, school desks, a fall on the playground or off a bike many things our children face can have an adverse affect on their spine and their nervous system. If the problems are ignored it only creates trouble further down the road.
A study put together by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association derived from 812 pediatric cases including patients from birth to 18 years of age found that 88% of the cases reported feeling relief from their symptoms. Another 9% reported improvements unrelated to their condition including a better night’s sleep, a greater range of motion, enhanced immune system, and an overall better mood. While only 1% of the pediatric patients experienced aggravated complaints. The study concluded that chiropractic care is “safe and effective” for pediatric patients.
As a father I share the feeling of only wanting the best for my children. As a chiropractor I know children respond quickly and favorably to adjustments, and soak up the long lasting effects of chiropractic care from adjusting my own kids from day one. A child with a healthy spine is resilient, healthy, happy, and much less likely to be burdened aches and pains as they mature.
Would you consider chiropractic care for your child?
